Laboratory Technician Full-Time

Performs and interprets tests at all complexity levels. Determines the validity of test results through the monitoring and/or verifying of quality controls, standards, etc.

Education and Experience

Bachelor or Associate of Science in discipline meeting CLIA requirements. Minimum of two years lab experience and/or previous medical field experience is preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate specimens received by the department and organize workflow to provide optimum efficiency of testing and turnaround time of results
  • Follow the laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results
  • Perform laboratory testing in a compliant manner
  • Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed
  • Assume responsibility for and take action regarding any quality control or quality assurance issues as it pertains to specific job duties
  • Maintain instruments and equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications by performing assigned maintenance activities and troubleshooting unexpected problems with equipment
  • Record data to monitor temperatures and operational function of equipment and working areas
  • Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
  • Operate complex equipment and computer programs related to equipment and LIMS
  • Evaluate inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents and communicate order needs when necessary
  • Maintain a neat and clean work environment
  • Perform proficiency testing to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies as needed
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant, or Laboratory Director
  • Assist department in writing and maintaining standard operating procedures for clinical assays. Document knowledge by reviewing and signing SOPs annually
  • Other duties as assigned by management

  • Requires flexibility in schedule, working hours and days (potentially including weekends) outside of normal schedule when necessary
  • Goal oriented, with excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with people at all levels in an organization
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Assumes responsibility for good documentation practices and maintains clear and legible records
  • Follows all laboratory policies and procedures such as attendance and time reporting policies
  • Fine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle specimens and lab equipment required to process specimens and repair equipment
  • Analytical judgment, problem solving skills, accuracy and detail oriented
